Fluid dynamics of a double emulsion droplet in an electric field

چکیده
One of general free boundary problems concerning the electrohydrodynamic effects on a concentric double emulsion drop is studied theoretically for the three constituent phases of leaky dielectric fluids. In order to proceed the problem analytically, the domain perturbation procedure is utilized in the small deformation limit. The patterns of electric-field-driven flow are successfully characterized by examining the distribution of induced surface charges at the inner and outer drop interfaces. The second recirculating flow is generated in the annular phase when the inner and outer interfaces are charged with the same sense. The deformation type of inner and outer interfaces can be roughly interpreted by the flow patterns, although the exact description on the deformation requires consideration of the combined contributions from both electric and flow fields. In addition, the presence of double emulsion droplets alters the stress field of the continuous phase. The electric-field-induced ‘‘particle stress’’ not only changes the effective viscosity of dispersion of the double emulsion droplets but yields the normal stress difference, which is typical of a viscoelastic fluid. Finally, the heat transfer rate enhanced by the electric-field-driven flow is also considered. © 1999 American Institute of Physics. @S1070-6631~99!01605-0#

Study of leaky dielectric droplet behavior under an electric field: effect of viscosity and electric conductivity ratios
In this research, hydrodynamic behavior of a leaky dielectric droplet under an electric field is simulated. The level set method is used for interface tracking and the ghost fluid method is used for modeling discontinuous quantities at interface. Using Taylor’s leaky dielectric model, electric field and electric force at the interface is calculated. Simulation results show the droplet deformati...

A modified model has been analytically developed to describe the induction time of an elliptic air bubble in contact with an elliptic hydrophobic oil droplet. The role of hydrophobicity was revealed in the slippage of liquid over the surfaces of bubble and droplet. In this condition, the analytical relationships for pressure distribution and consequently hydrodynamic resistance force through th...

In this paper, a double-cyclone is used as a gas-solid separator in the fluid bed-drying process to prepare dry HDPE powder from a wet feed of 56000 kg/hr. The quality of dry HDPE depends mainly on particles behavior and flow pattern in the dryer which affect the double-cyclones as an effective equipment in this process. Controlling of the inlet carrier gas causes excellent flow pattern, desire...
